I sound different? I suppose spending eight of the last ten years away from Sunderland has completely mangled my accent.

The mask was just for the dust storm but a lot of people wear them to prevent transmission of colds, flu or to prevent themselves from inhaling pollen in the cedar pollen allergy season in Spring.

You don't sound like I remember. Time plays tricks.... On a different note, were you just wearing the mask because of the dust cloud or is that a usual thiing and if so, why? Often see people from the far East (if that's even a place) over her wearing those masks. :Last time I knew, SARS wasn't a risk still so I never know why masks are worn. Any insights?

Recently, I'm a bit busy because of preparation for the visit to the States in September 1. Already I rented a room at an apartment in Eugene OR. Next thing I have to do is canceling newspaper, CATV contract, telephone and so on.
One more, August 22 is the last day I attend classes at Machida. I think, the day will be the graduation day from the School. Actually, I studied there and other schools for 12 years. Although my language ability isn't deserved for real graduation, I have had the precious experience thinking and discussing in English. I have thought that accumulation of blood and body cholesterol was caused by meat especially fatty meat and some sea foods like sea urchin, squid and so on until I read your post. Is it true that chocolate or cake is culprit of body cholesterol?
Recently, I like to eat such suits like cake, chocolate, soft cream etc which I never eat when I was young. It's terrible information for me!!!! I'm not "Skinny Couch Potato," but "Fat Sedentary Bookish Nerd" now.

I meant to comment on the book challenge before - I will investigate the Japanese books in English translation because the couple of things I've read (some Suzuki and some Mishima) were very good in very different ways, and I've also always meant to read Silent Spring. I envy you 'the long goodbye' if it's the first time - although if you ever find the time I'd really recommend reading the Marlowe books in order-and I think The Amber Spyglass is wonderful too. The Shock Doctrine is on my list for a re-read too. Lovely stuff.

How is the baby? Is he OK now? Once I had the same experience. Thirty some years ago, when my family lived in Saginuma, my son had a high fever. We went to an emergency hospital in Mizonokuchi by taxi. That night the hospital was off duty for paediatrics . But we didn't know where we should go. So I asked the reception of the hospital pleadingly. They accepted us eventually but the doctor of the hospital, possibly he was taking dinner at the time, was so rude and sullen. I never forget his attitude. A nurse injected anti-biotics to my son and he recovered from the fever.

I think it takes practice and an open mind and actually, an active imagination so as you can provide reasons for that person's annoying 'traits' which may actually be one-off or limited behaviours.

Saying that, if you're annoyed with someone (as I am at the moment) it's quite easy to be even more judgemental about them.
