Two (Cinematic) Surprises
Today I went to see Speed Racer at my local multiplex. But it wasn't on at that time, so I went to see what I thought would be a piece of turd that I would give a chance to, What Happens In Vegas. [It was that or Nim's Island, and there's no way I'd go to see a kids' film alone because people would think I must be a kiddie fiddler.] Despite a normally overwhelming desire to beat Ashton Kutcher with big spiky sticks I have to say it was actually funny in places. Maybe due to the talismanic presence of Dennis Farina, surely to the 90s/21st Century's first decade what Brian Dennehy was to the 80s/90s.
I also saw Sex and the City with my wife. I expected a two-hour episode, but no, it actually had a story arc, though I'm sure depth was added by me having more than a rudimentary knowledge of the television series.
Neither are going to set the world alight but both are distinguished by being better than the new Indiana Jones flick.
